Long merging lanes.

Why are some on-ramp lanes so long on GTA’s expressways? The on-ramp merging lane from Cawthra Rd southbound to QEW westbound is almost 300 m long! Some cars merge early, some as late as possible and it almost always slows traffic down.
The next one down the QEW (from Hurontario south to QEW west) is even longer at over 350 m! Why? Whatever the reason, from thousands of times I’ve driven there, it creates more problems than it solves.
